Amesbury Open Studios at Caravan
Celebrate Art, Process, and Community
Amesbury Open Studios is a weekend-long celebration of creativity — when artists, makers, and small businesses open their doors to the public. Across downtown and beyond, you’ll find painters, photographers, jewelers, weavers, sculptors, and dreamers sharing their craft and stories.
This year at Caravan, we’re thrilled to feature artists of tin-type, jewelry, and weaving — each bringing their unique voice, materials, and magic to the weekend. Together, they reflect the heart of handmade work and the beauty of slow, intentional creation.

Light, Silver, and Soul
tin type portraits
Experience 19th-century photography brought to life. Maine-based artist Troy R. Bennett (aka Mystery Jig) creates hand-crafted tin-type portraits using a large-format camera and mobile darkroom.
Each portrait is made on a metal plate — exposed, developed, and fixed on-site — producing a luminous, one-of-a-kind image that feels both ancient and eternal.

weavings by ashley courtney
Ashley Courtney’s weavings translate light, movement, and emotion into richly layered textile form.

The Art of Weaving
ashley courtney
Ashley Courtney is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative work finds its heartbeat in the natural world. Her woven pieces are meditations on texture, movement, and form — tactile expressions of light, landscape, and emotion.
Through her loom, Ashley explores the delicate balance between structure and spontaneity. Each weave is a reflection of the small moments that inspire her: wind across water, sunlight through leaves, the soft geometry of shadow.
Her approach honors the slow craft of weaving — thoughtful, grounded, and deeply human — while transforming fiber into art that feels both timeless and alive.
